How You Can Control Behavior In The Classroom

When you are teaching students in high school the action that you deal with mostly is inappropriate behavior as well as reduced study skills. Going through behavior problems is something that most students go through since its part of growing up. It is not the same for everyone for some it’s more than for others. Behavior is one of the ways you can differentiate btw the special one and the regular ones. Lets see how classroom behavior can be maintained.

Come up with behavioral expectations and tell it to them. When the school year is starting let them know what you need from them regarding behavior. As from the first day of school come up with rules that will guide the class. The laws should be a tradition for the students and involve the students in creating the rules. If someone is doing something wrong come up with sighs that will signal them to stop doing what they are doing. Look closely to see if the laws are being developed.

Inform them of their behavior after you have monitored it for some time. If a student has forms of disruptive behavior curb it at early stage and always stay close to them and understand them well. When a student behaves in a bad away warn them using a stern voice and gestures. Rewarding ethical behavior is something you should always do in a classroom.

Reinforcement such us social, exercise, physical, consumable and harmful strengthening should be applied in making sure that the rules are followed. Instead if giving physical reward when someone has good behavior provide those tokens every time they are right. As backup reinforcement the tokens can be used. A contingency contact can be used in the case of older children. The contact should be drafted by you and the student saying that when they behave appropriately they will be rewarded. Shaping is a way that you use to prepare good action in small steps. Existing, as well as new behaviors, can be taught using shaping.

Use models to show the kind of behavior that you need from the student. In order for the rest of the students to understand when one of them has good behavior use them as an example. If you are working on a specific student make sure you students their age are around to listen and learn what are your expectations. This way you will be meeting on both sides. The students should take part in the program of improving their behavior by creating goals, preventing situations that could affect their behavior, assessing themselves and knowing how they should be rewarded for their excellent response. Parents should also be part of the behavior management program, so it is useful.
